Some more interesting things...
I've been tracking down various things that have piqued my interest lately, so I'll just toss them out on the table for discussion:
We also should be thinking about a place and time for our next meetup. I'll volunteer our brand spanking new front porch (well, new to Josie and me) if no one comes up with a place.

- Real Milk a "true dairy" source, but no Charlotte chapter. Can we [slowfood] absorb this as a sub-committee? Or at least incubate it's birth into reality? This site also dispells a lot of the rubbish you hear concerning unpasturized dairy products.
- Local Harvest an offsite directory that is similar to what we desire, a Slow-cator (ha, I just made that up) that uses metadata to create some sort of mashup with what we want to promote (restaurants, farms, stores, etc)
- Southern Exposure Seed Exchange Something for the home gardeners out there. I'd like to see some "backyard gardener" component become an intergral part of the Charlotte Convivia. A lot of the neighborhood groups typically have plant swaps, etc. but you don't really see this for the gardens. I remember stories from my childhood when my grandfather and my neighbors used to trade from their backyard gardens all the time - tomato seeds, onions, garlic, grafting vine stock for grapes & currants.
- It looks like I'm going to go kill some chickens with Michael Sison next Monday. Anybody care to join?

I've found it takes a considerable amount of inner peace, empathy and compassion to take the lives of wildlife. Especially non-domesticated creatures, their ultimate destiny was not to end up being consumed by man. With domesticated creatures there's a consignment to the fact that you are a part of the whole system and its your time to contribute. Steak doesn't grow on trees!
I'll be cupping on Friday too, then I'm going to check out the restaurant supply house across from CCC. I'm looking for a freestanding stainless kitchen sink to put in our temporary kitchen. Know any restaurant people/places? Our budget is around $100
“First one is tough, no fuckin' foolin'. The second one... the second one ain't no fuckin' Mardis Gras either, but it's better than the first one 'cause you still feel the same thing, y'know... except it's more diluted, y'know it's... it's better. I threw up on the first one, you believe that? Then the third one... the third one is easy, you level right off. It's no problem. Now... shit... now I do it just to watch their fuckin' expression change.”

That, more or less, sums up my predicted perception of the events I will partake in on Monday 6/19. Barring boyhood experiments, I have never killed a land animal, domesticated or otherwise. Will it turn me into a vegetarian? Doubt it. Will it increase my connection to, and appreciation of the food I eat? In theory, yes. In truth, you really don’t know until you chop off that first head, right? And so I will, with open heart and open mind.
Andy - I wish you would join us. Per my conversations with Sammy, observers are welcome, and you might view it as an interesting event to document. I’m planning on cupping Friday – we can discuss Charleston then.
Noll – Try Harry Parker, 924 N College St. They have a large warehouse of used stuff that should fit your budget. Also, check the paper for restaurant auctions, often times that’s where the used stuff in the warehouse comes from.
